She is the Assistant Program Director of Native Youth Theatre, and further embodies the roles of an Anishinaabemowin language learner, a Visual and Graphic Design Artist, an emerging Playwright and Writer, and an outreach drama educator. Nindibaajimowin. My story.
Nova's mother is from Rolling River First Nation and her father from Sagkeeng First Nation, both in Manitoba. She was raised on Treaty 7 Territory near Siksika, AB, before moving to Toronto, ON, to pursue various artistic endeavors. She currently resides in Winnipeg, MB.
Nova works with multiple Manitoba School Divisions, First Nation communities, and theatre production companies. She has been commissioned to create large-format wall murals based on her visual artwork and collaborates with Indigenous groups, incorporating traditional teachings with local Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
As the former Assistant Program Director for the Indigenous Theatre for Youth (formally Native Youth Theatre) program at Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Nova oversaw operations and collaborated with management on capacity-building initiatives, including an annual Cabaret performance that wrapped up the program’s season each year.
She has also worked in MTYP's Theatre School Outreach Program, traveling to rural Manitoba to deliver theatre workshops. These workshops focus on Indigenous storytelling and local oral histories, often culminating in performances where youth share what they’ve learned.
Nova has numerous creative writing projects in progress, including her full-length play Waawaashkeshiwag Wabano, a short youth play titled Dewe'igan Club for Boca Del Lupo, writing credits for Michif Country Season 4, a festival performance with Green Kids Inc., and workshop writing with Echo Theatre.
