Omaagomaan

“Through this new piece, Waawaate Fobister shares a highly personal story and sheds light on the urgent crisis that continues to affect Grassy Narrows First Nation.”

— Lia Apter, SesayArts Magazine

About

Waawaate Fobister is Omaagomaan — a spirit who carries us through a journey of dance, storytelling, spectacle, and surprise. Original direction by the late Troy Emery Twigg, a celebrated choreographer and writer whose vision shaped the heart of this piece, Omaagomaan stands as part of his enduring artistic legacy. Original composition and sound design by Marc Meriläinen create a vivid auditory landscape that deepens the emotional resonance of the performance.

With Indigenous costume design by Dené fashion visionary Sage Paul and stage management by André Blayne and Vern Gabriel, Omaagomaan is a multi-genre work that confronts the enduring impacts of mercury poisoning, clearcutting, and industrial devastation. This performance is an act of reclamation — a way to begin stitching a fractured landscape, and spirit, back together.
